Follett’s Destiny 11.0 release heightens support of digital learning.  [Follett Software Company] Follett announced the release of Destiny 11.0 with significant improvements to help create an interactive, digital learning environment with Follett eBooks, as well as continue to dramatically drive library efficiency. A key feature of Destiny 11.0 addresses the improvements Follett made to its capabilities for using eBooks and mobile devices to support digital learning, including a Destiny Quest mobile app for Kindle Fire devices to further support the 21st century learner. 2013-03-22. Koha 3.10.4 Released.  [koha-community.org] The Koha release team, in association with the multitude of Koha libraries, librarians, support companies, developers and users, are proud to announce the release of the latest stable release of the 3.10.x branch, 3.10.4. This maintenance release contains code from 15 people from 12 different organisations, making it once again a great example of international and inter company collaboration.  Making the official and community supported Koha live up to its’ promise of no single vendor lock in.

2013-03-22. Russian International Olympic University launches Virtua.  [VTLS, Inc.] VTLS  announced that the Russian International Olympic University has become their newest customer, completing the installation of Virtua in December 2012. This local implementation was completed in cooperation with the VP Group, a local systems integrator and official VTLS distributor in Russia. RIOU is a new university with campuses in Moscow and in Sochi, home of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The library, which is currently under construction, will feature a significant collection of literature on the history and development of the Olympic movement and related sports management.

BIBSYS Consortium selects Ex Libris Primo .  [Ex Libris] Ex Libris announced that BIBSYS, the Norwegian national provider of library services, has selected Primo for its discovery and delivery solution.  BIBSYS provides a range of integrated library products and services for a consortium that comprises libraries of Norwegian institutions of higher education, the National Library of Norway, and Norwegian research libraries. Consequently, authors publishing with SpringerPlus will enjoy maximum exposure of their research work. SpringerPlus is part of SpringerOpen, the publisher’s portfolio of over 120 open access journals across all areas of science, 14 of which already have an impact factor.

Utility or device: what drives eBook use and acceptance?.  [Springer] A new Springer white paper by Deborah Lenares of the Margaret Clapp Library at Wellesley College, and Steven Smith, formerly of Wellesley College and now Head of Collection Management at Boston University Libraries, draws on past studies and a new survey of users at Wellesley College to uncover some interesting insights for undergraduate librarians and institutions. Blanchester and Wornstaff Memorial Public Libraries Go Live on Evergreen.  [Equinox Software] The Blanchester and Wornstaff Memorial public libraries have gone live on Evergreen making a total of 8 library systems on the new Consortium of Ohio Libraries (COOL).  More than 10,000 new patrons will now be part of the COOL consortium and over  90,000 bibliographic items have been added to the combined catalog.

2013-03-15. SirsiDynix reveals new mobile circulation client at COSUGI 2013.  [SirsiDynix] SirsiDynix revealed SirsiDynix MobileCirc at COSUGI 2013. MobileCirc, available in summer 2013 for both SirsiDynix Horizon and Symphony libraries, is a portable client for circulation, inventory, and shelving tasks. MobileCirc will be released as an Android or iOS app or as a browser-based web app.

SirsiDynix welcomes 88 new library systems to the SirsiDynix Symphony family at COSUGI 2013.  [SirsiDynix] SirsiDynix announced that 88 new library customers migrated to SirsiDynix Symphony in 2012. SirsiDynix CEO Bill Davison welcomed the new customers into the growing SirsiDynix library community during the keynote session of COSUGI, the largest user conference of SirsiDynix customers. The new Symphony customer libraries migrated from a number of other ILS providers, including Polaris, Innovative, ExLibris, OCLC, Follett, Bookmark, Civica, TLC, Koha and others. 2013-03-14. MozGo goes live at Richmond Public Library.  [VTLS, Inc.] Richmond Public Library in British Columbia has released their new MozGo Mobile App, becoming the first library to distribute MozGo to their patrons. Richmond was among the first three customers to contract for MozGo immediately following the initial product announcement. The app has been customized and fully “branded” with the library’s colors and logo. The app provides searching, lets patrons place holds and view their accounts, and provides library information for each branch. Richmond Public Library, established in 1976, serves a population of about 200,000 and circulates 4.5 million items per year. The library uses Virtua as its ILS and has been a VTLS customer since 2005.
