HBCU Library Alliance Proposed Bylaws Changes - July 2011

The HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors agreed to a revision to the 2009 Bylaws to be submitted to the membership for approval. This revision would extend the term of the Past Chair from one year to two years, with appointment as chairperson of a fundraising committee, which will also include the Chair, the Vice Chair and the Program Director.  As the HBCU Library Alliance strategically moves towards sustainability, a formalized group of officers who are developing relationships with funders increases our likelihood to acquire grants and secure new funding sources.  Grant awards and other funding is often based on cultivated relationships with funding agencies.  The proposed revision would give the HBCU Library Alliance Board of Directors consistent membership on the Fundraising committee to develop relationships with prospective donors. This revision also enables a supported transfer of funding relationships across the HBCU leadership.

Requirements for Bylaws Changes
Amendments to the Bylaws must be approved by a two-thirds majority vote of eligible voting representatives before they can go into effect.  Each member in good standing shall be entitled to one vote.

In accordance with the HBCU Library Alliance Bylaws, Article VIII, Section A, please access the link below to view the current Bylaws with “tracked” changes. The proposed changes can be found on pages 3-5.

On Thursday, September 1st, members in good standing will receive a ballot to vote on the amended Bylaws. Voting will open on Friday, September 2nd and end on Friday, September 16th.
